Q4 Sportsbook Affiliate Playbook: NFL, NBA, Football and the Holiday Peak

6 min read

Q4 is the busiest stretch of the sports betting year. The NFL is in full swing, the NBA and NHL are underway, European football is in its busiest months, and the holiday calendar adds a run of high-interest fixtures.

This playbook shows sportsbook affiliates how to plan Q4 content by sport and geo, which pages to build, when to publish, and what to check for compliance.

Confirm every date against official schedules before you publish.

Step 1: Build your Q4 content stack

Every sportsbook affiliate site needs four layers:

  1. Evergreen hubs: one permanent page per sport and competition (for example "NFL betting offers"), updated all season
  2. Weekly previews: match and game previews built from a template (see our weekly content routine)
  3. Event guides: one dedicated guide for each major event
  4. Offer pages: current sign-up offers with full terms, updated at least weekly

Hub pages collect authority all season. Don't create new URLs for each round when you can update the same page.

Step 2: Plan by geo

United States

  • Focus on the NFL, then NBA, college football and the NHL
  • Betting is legal state by state, so build geo-specific pages and only promote operators licensed in each state. See iGaming Affiliate Compliance by Market.
  • Key moments: Thursday night games, Sunday slate, Monday night, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day

Canada

  • NFL, NHL and NBA, plus the CFL around the Grey Cup
  • In Ontario, only promote registered operators. Read the Ontario iGaming affiliate guide.

United Kingdom

  • Premier League weekends, Champions League midweek, international breaks, Boxing Day fixtures
  • Strict advertising rules apply. See the UK iGaming affiliate guide.

Europe

  • Football is the core, but rules differ by country, and some markets heavily restrict advertising. Read the Europe iGaming affiliate guide.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Licensed sports and racing betting only, with the Melbourne Cup as the main November event
  • Do not build online casino content for these markets. Check the rules in iGaming Affiliate Compliance by Market.

Step 3: Match page types to the calendar

When Publish Why
5 to 7 days before a major event Event guide with the key storylines Gives search engines time to index and rank
2 to 3 days before Preview with odds and offers Peak search intent
Morning of Update the preview with team news and refreshed offers Captures last-minute searches
Day after Short recap that links to the next event Retains traffic and builds your internal links
All season Hub page updates Compounds authority over time

Step 4: Weekly Q4 schedule

Day Task
Mon Review the week's fixtures and prioritise by search interest
Tue Publish Champions League and midweek content
Wed Refresh offer pages and check all terms
Thu Publish NFL Thursday and weekend previews
Fri Publish weekend football previews, send your weekly email
Sat/Sun Monitor, update team news and injuries
Mon Review results by page (clicks, FTDs, EPC)

Step 5: Pick the right commission model for event traffic

Event-driven traffic can spike and drop quickly. Many affiliates use:

  • CPA or hybrid for short, sharp event windows
  • Rev share or hybrid for evergreen hub pages with loyal, returning readers

Sportsbook revenue can swing with results, so watch for negative carryover in rev share deals. Read Baselines and Negative Carryover Explained and Rev Share vs CPA vs Hybrid.

Step 6: Q4 compliance checklist

  • Only licensed operators for the user's state, province or country
  • Age warning (18+, 19+ or 21+) and responsible gambling links on every page
  • Offers current: check them weekly, and remove expired promotions the day they end
  • No "guaranteed win" or "risk-free" language unless it matches the operator's terms and the local rules
  • No content likely to appeal strongly to under-18s
  • Athlete or celebrity content checked against local rules
  • A visible affiliate disclosure

Common Q4 mistakes

  1. Starting too late. Pages need time to be indexed. Publish major event guides at least a week ahead.
  2. Publishing new URLs every week. Update hubs instead.
  3. Leaving old offers live. Expired bonuses damage trust and can breach advertising rules.
  4. Using one page for all geos. Legality, operators and rules differ by state, province and country.
  5. Not tracking by page. Use sub-IDs so you know which events and formats actually earn.

FAQ

When should I start publishing Q4 sportsbook content?

Ideally in September or early October. Major event guides should go live at least a week before the event, and hubs should be live before the season peaks.

Which sport earns most for affiliates in Q4?

It depends on your geo. In the US and Canada, the NFL is the biggest driver. In the UK and Europe, it is football. In Australia and New Zealand, the Melbourne Cup and racing matter most in November.

Should I create a new page for every game?

For marquee events, yes. For regular fixtures, use round-up pages or update hubs.

How do I handle Black Friday sportsbook offers?

Review current terms carefully, show dates clearly, and don't overstate bonuses. Operators often change offers at short notice, so check them daily during the week.

How often should I update offer pages?

At least weekly, and daily around Black Friday, Christmas and other peak events.
